Denise's work with adolescents and their families addresses family conflict, acculturation stress, and academic pressure as connected parts of one experience, especially within Latino and immigrant households navigating school, identity, and generational expectations together.
Her solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, and person-centered approach gives clients practical, collaborative tools they can use right away, helping adolescents and their families move toward change rather than staying stuck in what brought them in.
With nearly a decade of experience in schools and fluency in English and Spanish, Denise understands how cultural stigma can make it hard to ask for help, and she creates a space where clients and their families can be honest without needing to explain their cultural context first.
"Nearly a decade in schools taught me that young people are often carrying more than anyone realizes. I do this work because every person deserves someone in their corner who truly listens, no matter what language they feel safest speaking in. I hope clients gain not just relief from what brought them in, but a stronger sense of their own resilience and a clearer understanding of how their family and environment shape their experience. I want them to leave feeling more connected, both to themselves and to the people who matter to them."
- Denise Marroquin
Denise especially enjoys working with adolescents and their families, particularly within Latino and immigrant communities navigating school, identity, and family stress.
Her background in school counseling has given her a deep appreciation for meeting young people where they are, and she brings that same warmth and patience into her work at the Center for Healing & Personal Growth.
Denise's approach draws on solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered principles. She works collaboratively with clients to build practical tools they can use in their daily lives while helping them understand how their family and environment shape their experience.
She is currently completing her PsyD in Applied Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (expected 2028), building on a Master's in School Counseling from Loyola Marymount University and nearly a decade of experience as a school counselor supporting adolescents and their families.
Denise is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing clients to work with her in whichever language feels safest. She hopes clients leave their work together feeling truly seen and understood, especially those who have felt hesitant to seek support due to cultural stigma around mental health. Her goal is to create a space where clients feel safe enough to be honest, and equipped with tools they can actually use in their daily lives.
Outside of work, you will usually find Denise hiking a new trail, dancing, or unofficially recruited by a friend to help pick out their outfit for the night, a job she takes very seriously. Good food and good company are non-negotiable for her, and if there is a basketball game on, she is watching.
