Alex's extensive experience serving individuals facing homelessness and housing instability gives him rare, grounded insight into how systemic barriers shape mental health, allowing him to meet clients with validation rather than judgment.
As a bilingual therapist offering care in both English and Spanish, Alex provides culturally responsive support that honors language, identity, and family dynamics for diverse communities.
His background in macro social work and community capacity building allows him to help clients understand how systemic and community-level factors influence their personal struggles, without ever losing sight of their individual agency and strengths.
“I believe clients are the experts on their own lives. My role is to help them recognize the strengths they already carry, learn from their experiences, and bridge the gap between who they are today and who they hope to become. I want clients to leave therapy knowing that they have the ability to take ownership of their lives, make meaningful changes, and create a future that reflects what matters most to them.”
- Alex Xicay
Alex Xicay is an Associate Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about helping people recognize their strengths, reconnect with their sense of purpose, and move toward becoming the best versions of themselves.
He creates a therapeutic space grounded in warmth, empathy, curiosity, and genuine human connection. His approach is collaborative and nonjudgmental, allowing clients to explore difficult experiences while feeling respected, supported, and empowered.
Alex currently works primarily with adults and also brings experience supporting children, adolescents, and couples.
Working with underserved communities has taught Alex that mental health cannot be separated from the realities of a person’s environment. Housing, finances, discrimination, family relationships, community resources, culture, and access to services can all influence emotional well-being. He recognizes that many people have been expected to survive difficult circumstances without receiving the understanding, support, or resources they deserve. His work honors the resilience it has taken for clients to arrive where they are while helping them build the tools needed to move forward.
Alex’s therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based practices with deeply humanistic and strengths-based principles. He draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and person-centered care. He also incorporates trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and harm-reduction practices to ensure that treatment reflects each client’s experiences, values, readiness, and individual goals.
Rather than telling clients what they should do, Alex works alongside them to understand the thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns affecting their lives. He helps clients develop practical coping skills, strengthen emotional regulation, improve communication, increase motivation, and identify manageable steps toward change. He believes therapy should recognize clients as active participants in their healing and remind them that their struggles do not erase their strengths or determine their future.
Alex earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, and his Master of Social Work from California State University, Dominguez Hills, with a concentration in community capacity building and macro social work. His education shaped his understanding of how decisions and conditions at the macro level influence organizations and communities at the mezzo level and ultimately affect individuals and families at the micro level. This perspective allows him to validate systemic barriers without losing sight of each client’s ability to exercise choice, build confidence, and create meaningful change within their life.
Alex provides therapy in both English and Spanish and values working with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. He understands that culture, family, language, identity, and community can shape how people experience emotional distress, seek support, and define healing. He strives to create an inclusive therapeutic relationship where clients can be open about these parts of themselves and feel genuinely seen.
Above all, Alex views therapy as a partnership. He hopes to help clients transform their experiences into sources of knowledge and growth, recognize the strengths that have helped them survive difficult moments, and take greater ownership of the direction of their lives. His goal is to help each person bridge the distance between where they are and where they want to be.
Outside of the therapy room, Alex is first and foremost a devoted family man. He enjoys spending time with his family, taking his children on new and fun adventures, and going to the movies. He also enjoys playing Nintendo Switch and collecting sneakers, interests that allow him to stay connected to playfulness, creativity, and the importance of making time for joy.
Alex offers in-person and virtual therapy in both English and Spanish.
